DLG’s £175 Million Huddersfield Project gets the go-ahead
Kirklees Council
has approved plans for a major £175 million mixed-use regeneration project in Huddersfield by award winning architects DLG on behalf of
its client Strategic Sites.
Known as the
Waterfront Quarter, the development is situated on a six acre site on the edge
of Huddersfield town centre between Manchester
Road and Chapel Hill.As one of the largest urban renewal projects
in the UK, it will comprise
of a 300,000 sq ft purpose built building for KirkleesCollege,
190,000 sq ft of offices and 300 new homes, as well as cafes, bars and other
leisure facilities.

stage on the making the Waterfront Quarter happen.The scheme will revitalise an important part
of Huddersfield Town Centre and become a vibrant community in which people will
come to live, work, learn and play.”

Architects in Leeds comments: “Now that we
have approval from Kirklees Council it is likely that construction work will
commence in spring next year.The first
phase will include the college building and up to 85,000 sq ft of grade A
offices.
“Our plans
include a mix of uses that are capable of meeting the future requirements of
the town and encourage investment from outside the area.”

The entire
project is likely to be completed by 2012.
